Welcome to
The Zonta Club of
Schenectady
Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of individuals working together to advance the status of girls and women, with more than 26,000 members in more than 1,100 clubs in 63 countries.
We are proud to have one of these clubs in Schenectady since 1927 The Zonta Club of Schenectady currently has over 27 members. The name “Zonta” is derived from a Sioux word meaning “honest & trustworthy.” The name “Schenectady” is derived from a Mohawk word skahnéhtati meaning “beyond the pines”. The city was founded on the south side of the Mohawk River by Dutch colonists in the 17th century, many from the Albany area.
Zonta Club of Schenectady members have a passion for improving the status of women through advocacy. They volunteer their time, talent, energy and resources to participate actively in club projects and to raise money for the Club’s annual scholarships, awards and grants which support local women’s programs. Local club fundraising also supports the global efforts of Zonta International; both service projects (chosen in harmony with United Nations goals,) projects to end violence against women (ZIAVAW) and educational awards.
Membership in Zonta is by invitation and is limited within classifications in order to maintain diversification among the businesses and professionals represented. Becoming a member of Zonta unites these executives in the pursuit of a common goal – to advance the status of women – giving them the collective strength to help individual women the world over reach their potential.
Potential members are urged to register to attend one or two of our monthly dinner meetings or special events (See dates & locations on our website, under Events.) For more information, please email schenectady@zontadistrict2.org.
